Attendance Policy

Recent changes in state law require that CVHS now track and report student “attendance” in all CVHS online courses.

  • What this means for CVHS students: All students must log in AT LEAST once every 10 days or they will be counted as absent and course access will be deactivated.
  • If a student is considered absent and course access is deactivated: Student will be un-enrolled from the course. However, no work will be lost.
  • For course reactivation: If un-enrolled, then the student will need to submit a request for course reactivation (at http://cvhs.canyonsdistrict.org/help) in order to resume coursework.

Additional Details on Law and Policy Changes

Recent changes in state law require that schools with nontraditional programs establish a written policy that defines a “continuing enrollment measure.” (If interested in the fine print, see Section R277-419.) As a result, the Canyons District Board of Education adopted Policy JEB – Pupil Accounting for Non-Traditional Programs. This policy relates directly to Canyons Virtual High School and its students.

How Attendance Will Be Measured

Attendance will be measured using login time-stamps from within GradPoint and/or Canvas. If students log in at least once every ten school days, they will be counted as present. Alternatively, if students fail to log in at least once every ten days, they will be counted as absent for ten consecutive days – and consequently must be un-enrolled from the course.

Requesting Re-Enrollment

When un-enrolled, student access to course content is de-activated. Nevertheless, re-activation (and re-enrollment) may occur at any time until the student graduates – without penalty and without loss of course progress – but must be petitioned by submitting a request for course reactivation at http://cvhs.canyonsdistrict.org/help.
